-Must be an ASU graduate or professional student

-Must be enrolled in at least one graduate-level credit hour at ASU. Summer enrollment is not required only if you are a continuing student to the fall semester. If you are graduating in the summer you must be enrolled in at least one graduate-level credit hour at ASU.

-Must be an in-person or ONLINE student on the ASU Tempe, Polytechnic, Downtown, or West campus. Online students are eligible.

-Submit application by the appropriate deadline (no exceptions).
For all applications with travel: Submit by the 1st of the month, a minimum of two monthly cycles prior to the month of departure; or as early as three monthly cycles prior to the month of departure.
For virtual-only applications: Submit by the 1st of the month, a minimum of one monthly cycle prior to the month of the virtual event.

-Submit your own original work. Your application must be it's own unique, individual application. You may not copy material from a prior application that was selected for an award.

-Complete all questions.

-Do not mention your name ANYWHERE on the application or in uploaded documents. If you must refer to yourself, refer to yourself as "the applicant." Mentioning your name will violate the double-anononymous review process and your application will be disqualified.

2025-2026 Travel Grant

The GSG Travel Grant exists to support and promote the success of ASU graduate and professional students' research and professional development by increasing ASU's reputation as a Research Extensive Institution, promoting the ASU graduate and professional student community at large, and fostering opportunities for professional growth.

The funds awarded from this program are used to support student travel to regional, national and international conferences, training courses, workshops, exhibitions, performances, competitions, internships, professional interviews and other activities directly related to students' graduate programs of study.

Applications to the GSG Travel Grant program are sent to peer reviewers at the beginning of every month. Within the online application, students designate the purpose of travel (either an academic conference or another professional development opportunity). All applications are then reviewed in one pool, regardless of the travel program, by a committee of reviewers. 

Funding Period: Grants will be awarded for travel occurring July 1 through June 30, contingent upon the availability of funds. Eligibility: Any in-person ASU student registered for at least 1 graduate-level credit at the time of application and the time of travel may apply (summer enrollment not required if a continuing student in the fall). Online students are eligible. Travel must be directly related to the applicant's graduate program of study.

Multiple Awards/Applications: A student can receive several travel grants within one fiscal year (i.e., July 1 through June 30) as long as each award doesn't exceed the per award maximum limits and the annual maximum limits. Students cannot use multiple awards for the same event.

• Students may receive the Individual Travel Grant up to a maximum award of $950 per fiscal year.
• Students can be a member of a Group Travel Grant and may receive up to a maximum award of $950 per fiscal year. 
• Students may receive the Career Development Grant up to a maximum of $950 per fiscal year.
• Students may receive both an Individual Grant up to $950 and be a part of a Group Grant where they are eligible for an additional $950, for different events.
• Please note that students cannot use multiple awards for the same event. 

When to Apply: An application must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM MST on the 1st day of the month two monthly cycles prior to the month of departure. (For example, if traveling on November 22, the online application is due no later than September 1st at 11:59 PM.) Applications can be submitted as early as three monthly cycles before the month of departure for your travel. If you apply three monthly cycles early, you may choose to re-submit your application if not initially selected. Deadlines and completed information are essential to processing requests in a fair and orderly manner. In order to ensure the integrity of the application process, no exceptions will be made to program guidelines or deadlines. GSG does not fund retroactively. To receive funding, you must apply before you travel.

Reimbursable Expenses: In most cases, the Travel Grant will cover costs of airfare, mileage if driving your own vehicle, ground transportation (taxi, shuttle services, trains, public transportation, etc.), hotels/lodging, meals, and event registration. The Travel Grant will not cover the cost of rental cars, phone calls, internet access charges, or any expense prohibited by university policy. GPSA does not give travel advances for any reason.

ASU Travel Policy: The GSG Travel Grant program follows the travel policies set by ASU: https://cfo.asu.edu/domestic-travel-guidance. It is your responsibility to review ASU Travel Guidance and Policy to understand how to calculate allowed reimbursement rates for airfare, lodging, mileage, and per diem, and how to claim reimbursement. In addition, the ASU Travel Policy sets the requirements that students receive ASU approval via the MyASU Trip Concur system (e.g., Trip Requests, Expense Reports) prior to departing for the trip. GSG has specific instructions provided in the award letter that are allowed to be different from ASU Travel Policy, such as airfare/lodging cannot be booked in Concur (unless being paid in full by another ASU entity), and no travel advances are provided.

Application Review: Applications are peer-reviewed monthly after the 1st. Each month constitutes a travel funding cycle.

Award Notifications: Applicants will be notified of the status of their application no later than the 30th of the month of their respective travel submission deadline. If an applicant does not receive an email notification, it is the applicant's responsibility to inquire about their application status. Partial awards may be given.

Strengthening Your Application:
* Provide a well-composed and compelling argument for the significance of your travel and how it relates to success in your graduate program of study.
* Demonstrate outstanding current or past service to GSG, the university, and your field.
* Submit a complete and realistic budget, including any cost-saving measures employed.
* Ensure that no information is missing from your application.
* Do not disclose your name (in full or partial).

In addition, funding priority may be given to applicants who have not been awarded funds in the past. Please note that this is a highly selective grant competition, with ~40% of grants receiving funding per cycle. Correctly completing an application does not ensure funding. Each month, many excellent applications are not selected for the grant because of the large number of requests submitted and the limited availability of funds. Some months are less competitive than others, so we encourage applicants to apply as early as possible for their travel. If you apply early, you may request feedback and submit a revised application before the next cycle.

Awardees' Responsibilities to GSG: In addition to abiding by all program guidelines and requirements, and ASU Travel policy, grant recipients must agree to provide a brief written statement or sound bite describing how the travel grant contributed to their academic/professional development, for use on the GSG website and promotional materials. This may be posted to social media using the hashtag #GPSATravel and submitted along with reimbursement paperwork upon returning from your trip. Refer to your award letter for instructions on how to submit your post-trip/award statement.

Integrity Disclaimer: Please note that all applicants for any GSG program must submit their own unique, individual applications to all GSG-funded programs. Students are not permitted to take any portion of content from prior student awardees or online sources (i.e., conference websites) for any reason whatsoever. Any student caught using the work (in any portion) from another student or online source, or copying their own material from a prior application, will be considered in violation of GSG’s policy. Such action will prohibit the student in question from being eligible for the current application in consideration, and may inhibit eligibility for future GSG funding applications. In summary, each application must be the applicant’s own original work.
