The Government of the District of Columbia, Department of For-Hire Vehicles (“DFHV”), is soliciting applications from eligible DFHV licensed Digital Taxicab Solution providers (“DTS Provider” or “DTS”) to participate in innovative pilot projects and partnership programs aimed at improving and expanding economic opportunities for eligible taxicab drivers.
With the increase spread of COVID-19 in the United States, it has been an extremely challenging and unprecedented week for the District of Columbia’s taxicab industry. DFHV recognizes that many drivers are feeling anxious and uncertain about the immediate future in the wake of this massive events cancelling and the “self-quarantining” of District and US citizens resulting in a loss of income. DFHV has observed a sudden and steep decline in the demand for daily taxi trips since the declaration of the Public Health Emergency.
To help address concerns, the government of the District of Columbia, Department of For-Hire Vehicles (“DFHV”), is soliciting applications from eligible DFHV licensed DTS companies (“DTS Provider” or “DTS”) to be a part of the FY 2020 Taxi Emergency Relief Grant (“TERG”). DFHV’s initiative is to provide taxicab operators with a relief fund to mitigate the economic impact of the sudden downturn. The supportive operator’s subsidies of a minimum amount of one-hundred dollars ($100) per eligible driver is available through DTS providers.
Funding under this NOFA is not to exceed seven hundred forty-three thousand one hundred and fifty-eight dollars ($743,158) in grant funds for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20), and is subject to DFHV’s legal, regulatory authority, and funding availability. Upon the availability of funds, DFHV may offer additional application opportunities based on the extent of need and duration of the Coronavirus pandemic.
