MIAMI GARDENS SMALL BUSINESS INITIATIVE (MGSBI) APPLICANT GUIDELINES
The purpose of the Miami Gardens Small Business Initiative Program (MGSBIP) is to aid small businesses via a working capital grant in support of their general operations. Funds available will be provided to small businesses to assist with ensuring they are able to operate and grow their business in the City of Miami Gardens. This program would provide a one-time grant to eligible Miami Gardens small businesses.
To be considered for funding, applicants must apply using the information provided. One-time grant awards will be accessible to business owners in amounts up to $10,000. The grant award may be used to defray the costs of eligible expenses listed as Eligible Uses under Eligibility Criteria.
CRITERIA
Businesses must meet the following criteria to apply for a one-time MGSBIP Grant:
• Based within the City limits of Miami Gardens;
• Be a for-profit business or non-profit business;
• Have been in operation prior to October 1, 2019;
• Be legally registered, fully licensed (as required by applicable law), and up to date on tax payments/filings through 2019.
Note: Priority will be given to businesses with annual revenues of $1 million or less
ELIGIBLE USES
Commercial property lease or mortgage payments
Business development costs such as professional services, inventory/supplies/equipment, or other expenses occurring in the ordinary course of business.
Business Interruption Costs
Payroll for employee retention
Electric Utilities
Facilities overhead costs, such as security, insurance, maintenance, etc.
Businesses whose primary source of revenue (>75%) is the sale of packaged alcoholic liquors;
Businesses that present live performances of a sexual nature or engage in the sale of products or services, or the presentation of any depictions or displays, of a sexual nature;
Businesses associated with gambling, CBD/medical marijuana, or adult entertainment;
Businesses that are publicly traded; and
Lending and investment institutions, insurance companies, golf courses, or chain stores.
This list is not exhaustive. Therefore, other ineligible businesses as determined by the City of Miami Gardens’ application process can be denied assistance.
PROCESS
1. Program application will be accessed through the Zoom Grants system. Applications will be reviewed on a first come first served basis.
2. Application window is open February 16, 2021 at 9am and close February 22, 2021 at 5pm. No applications will be accepted outside this application window.
3. Please submit only ONE application per business. Multiple applications by the same applicant will result in automatic disqualification. Only completed applications will be reviewed and considered.
4. No paper applications will be accepted.
