About: The King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) is pleased to release this Support Community Strategies to Address Gun Violence and Pathfinder Coordination RFP with funding from the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) and guidance from the VSHSL Implementation Plan.

The program will fund community-based entities to prevent or respond to gun violence, with a focus on Black/African American communities, people experiencing domestic and sexual violence, and other communities disproportionately impacted by gun violence. For the purposes of this RFP, gun violence includes non-suicide firearms deaths, nonfatal firearms injuries, as well as situations where the use or presence of a firearm is an element of actual or threatened violence (including but not limited to encounters with law enforcement, and threats made involving firearms in the context of domestic or sexual violence).

Available Funding: Up to $1,186,826 in funding through the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy funds

Proposals Due: Proposals must be submitted through ZoomGrants no later than 3 p.m. on July 13, 2021.

This request is open to nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, tribes and tribal organizations and public or governmental agencies serving communities in King County. Small nonprofits and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit proposals. Collaborative applications reflecting multiple organizations or groups will be accepted. If submitting a collaborative application, please clearly identify the role each organization will play and proactively work with each collaborative partner in drafting the proposal.

Eligible applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Focus on or demonstrated willingness to build the capacity to focus on, the prevention of violence, including gun violence.
  • Demonstrated experience working within Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities in King County.
  • Record of leadership of Black people, Indigenous people, and/or People of Color within the applicant’s organization(s).
  • Submit an application within the scope of work outlined in Section II.C., STRATEGY: The Request, of this application.
