About: The King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) is pleased to release this Request for Proposal for Senior Virtual Villages with funding from the Veterans, Seniors and Human Services (VSHSL) and guidance from the VSHSL Implementation Plan.

This program seeks geographically based or culturally affiliated groups with current or emerging networks of volunteers to strengthen or develop senior village programs in order to support low-income seniors, immigrant and refugee seniors, rural seniors, and/or seniors of color to remain in their communities of choice and stay connected within those communities in a way that promotes resiliency.

Available Funding: Up to $2,623,350 in Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy funds

This request is open to nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, tribes and tribal organizations and public or governmental agencies serving seniors 55 and older in King County. Small nonprofits and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit proposals. While senior centers connected to senior hubs are not excluded from eligibility, priority will be given to organizations not affiliated with a VSHSL funded-senior hub.

The County intends to support organizations that fall into one of two categories, as follows:

  • Emerging neighborhood-based or geographically-centered senior villages in areas of the county with less easy access to VSHSL-funded senior hubs, that seek support in establishing themselves and maintaining operations as a senior village; or
  • Established senior villages, especially those that may already operate in areas of the county with easier access to one or several VSHSL-funded senior hubs, that serve or intend to serve diverse populations not explicitly identified as a focus population of a VSHSL-funded senior hubs in the area of service where the senior village operates; these entities may seek support to offer opportunities for inclusive participation by diverse and low-income seniors.
